How to send a parcel to Canada?
The essential documents

During an international shipment, International parcel carriers handle all requests at the relevant Customs. The Pro-forma invoice or commercial invoice is a document provided by the carrier giving a certain number of mandatory information to declare a commodity as soon as it is imported into the country of destination.

If you send à parcel to Canada from Switzerland, what commercial or pro forma invoice must contain:

  •   Sender (address in Switzerland)
  •  Recipient (address in Canada)
  •  Company: enter their EORI number (customs identification number in EU equivalent  of our VAT number)
  •  Overall description of the goods
  •  Number of packages, number of pieces
  •  Unit value of the goods, and total value
  •  Currency (EUR, CHF, USD, GBP, etc.)
  •  Date, signature
  • Important! Like all customs invoices, it must be written in English or in the language of the country of destination.

Here is the important information to know if you want to send the following goods:

Chocolate:

  • Fedex: chocolate must have an expiry date of more than 6 months and must be accompanied  by a Pro-forma invoice.
  • UPS: Does not ship chocolate.
  • TNT: Does not ship chocolate.

A computer:

  • Fedex: If the computer contains a battery, the shipper must have a dangerous materials declaration, a Pro-forma invoice and a packing slip.
  • UPS: An original invoice and two copies are required, the maximum weight allowed is 70Kgs.
  • TNT: The recipient will be taxed at customs and VAT on the value of the goods declared

Moving belongings:

  • Fedex: The effects being moved must be imported by the recipient. He must present a Pro-forma invoice with the origin and the reason of the sending.
  • UPS: Doe not ship any personal belongings.
  • TNT: The recipient will be taxed at customs and VAT on the value of the goods declared.

Keys (personal belonging):

  • Fedex: A Pro-forma invoice is to be provided. It is possible that duties and taxes are charged to the recipient upon receiving the goods.

Furniture:

  • UPS: Does not ship suitcases.
  • TNT: It is possible that duties and taxes are charged to the recipient upon receiving the goods.

Documents:

  • Fedex: An Air wayBill is needed to send documents to Canada.
  • UPS: There are no restrictions on sending documents with this carrier.
  • TNT: A Pro-forma invoice will be requested if the documents weigh more than 5kg.

Credit card:

  • FedEx: The shipper must provide a Pro-forma invoice to export a credit card.
  • UPS: Does not ship credit cards.
  • TNT: Does not ship credit cards.

Wine:

  • Fedex: The “Alcohol Shipping Agreement” form must be completed
  • UPS: Does not ship wine.
  • TNT: Sending alcohol to Canada is only allowed via the service.

USB stick:

  • Fedex: The recipient must submit a Pro-forma invoice for this type of shipment.
  • UPS: Does not ship USB sticks.
  • TNT: It is possible that duties and taxes are charged to the recipient upon receiving the goods.
